About the Trip

Sailing past the ragged coastline scattered with historic lighthouses and scenic rock formations of the port towns of Maine will be an experience in and of itself. However, entering the Labrador Coast, and with the bow pointing towards Nuuk, will most likely be that experience for which our guests chose this trip. With everyday sailed the days will get longer, the nights shorter and the weather colder. Eventually sea ice will be seen and night time replaced by 24 hours of daylight. Greenland and its unique culture and wildlife await our guests. Polar bears, icebergs the size of cities, and brightly coloured towns housing the Inuit locals and their fascinating culture are only some of the treasures Greenland offers.

Itinerary

Day 01, Embark

Guests arrive to board Urchin. Together Guests stamp passports for permission to depart, then undergo a safety briefing and get acquainted with vessel layout. Urchin then departs.

Day 02-34, Sailing

Unlike other sailing voyages offered by Urchin, sailing to Greenland through the Labrador Sea will include iceberg watches to ensure Urchin navigates the waters safely. While weather systems are able to be predicted with relative accuracy, over the long term – at some stage on some trip –  the possibility remains that Urchin may well have to navigate an Arctic storm. But this in itself simply adds to the excitement of sailing in Northern waters. Fortunately as Urchin approaches Greenland, the nights will become shorter and the days longer until eventually the sun no longer sets.

Day 45-36, Disembark

Urchin is required to stop at the closest port of entry upon entering Greenland to process visas. Once processed by immigration, Urchin will dock so that guests are able to disembark.
