St. Helena Island highlights include Napoleon’s Tomb and Longwood House, the former residence of Napoleon, Diana’s Peak National Park, and Jacob’s Ladder, a steep staircase with 699 steps leading up to Ladder Hill Fort. Visitors can expect incredible wild-life sightings such as the St Helen Plover and some of the largest whale-shark sighting grounds in the world.
As Urchin leaves Azores, she will pass the last of the islands to enter the open ocean once again. The trip will be characterized by warm water tropical conditions and occasional showers. The boat is bound to be surrounded by different species of dolphin, whale and pelagic fish and bird as she makes her way to the equator. The weather may vary as she approaches the equator but a day or 2 later the consistent trade winds will again have Urchin sailing comfortable downwind. Approaching St Helena guests may witness the native whale-shark population and prepare for a long list of excursions and activities available on St Helena.
Saint Helena has many dive sights which are accessible by Urchin. We often partner with local dive guides to access locally known locations and explore the underwater terrain and sealife. On St Helena local tours can be arranged to discover the rich history of St Helena. The rugged mountainous climate allows for long guided hikes along the coast, ideal for photography and wildlife exploration.
Packing for a sailing trip mean prioritizing clothing that is functional to pack as light as possible as there is not much space on a vessel. Aim to stay warm by layering clothing and bring sun protection. An important consideration is any medicine that you may need may have to be ordered in bulk to last the voyage.
We are always keen to explore the places we sail to, and encourage our guests to engage in local activities. Whether it’s choosing from one of the suggested options, or a completely custom experience, our team will do their best to make it happen.
